Community Shows Up: Cambridge's September Giving Season

Late September in Cambridge has been all about neighbours showing up for neighbours. The Cambridge OPP opened their doors at the new Hespeler Road detachment on Saturday, Sept. 19, with community members touring the space, watching demonstrations, and supporting the food bank. That same weekend, 18 local artists opened their studios to the public for the free Cambridge Studio Tour—a chance to meet the creative folks working right here in town. On the same Saturday, Cambridge firefighters were out collecting at Cambridge Centre and the Pinebush Road Walmart for Muscular Dystrophy Canada. And over at Kin 1 ball diamond, the community celebrated accessibility improvements with Buddy League games. The spirit carried through the weekend: the Cambridge Highlanders Minor Lacrosse Association held their annual meeting on Sept. 20, wrapping up the season and planning ahead. Sunday brought runners together for the Terry Fox Run, with organizers reporting over $25,000 raised. Coming up this week, the Preston Lantern Project lights up Central Park on Saturday, Sept. 26, with free workshops at Mood Yellow Gallery throughout the week. That's Cambridge in the fall—busy, giving, and looking out for each other.
